You MUST install a Ringtones Manager

What is a Ring Tone manager?

The current methods of getting Alarm sounds into PalmOs are problematic to say the least. The typical method means overwriting the system ringtone database (not recommended) or loading multiple databases of the same type. There are a number of problems with either method. Typical problems include

  • Overwriting existing Alarm collections when installing new ones.
  • Not being able to revert to the default alarms easily if problems occur.
  • Overloading PalmOs with too many Tones.

When you install Ringtones for Treo you are loading a Ringo Tone Database. You can load as many as you want however you need to use a ringtone manager to switch between them easily. The ringtone manager allows you to select from the different ring tone databases and copy them into the system tone database.  Features to look our for in the software you choose

  • Set a personal Ringtone for each of your friends or groups

  • Create 'groups' of contacts for easy management

  • Additional sound and picture related functions.

I have never installed a Palm application before, how do I do it?

Ringtones are listed, but only play the standard beep sound

  • Problem:

  • I have installed the Ringtones. All the new Ringtones show up as options, I select the one I want to play, but only the default alarm sound is played.

    Solution:

  • If you have installed other alarm or Ringtones collection, you will see the problem you have described after installing Creationzone alarms. You need to remove any previously installed alarm sounds before the collection will work. This is due to a limitation in PalmOs that only allows around 256 alarms to be installed.

The  Ringtones are quiet...why?

  • Check the preferences settings for the Ringtone volume. However be aware that the sound reproduction capabilities of these devices is quite limited.

Which devices are supported?

  • Tested on the new Treo from Handspring, we have a separate release for Handspring ™Treo ™. This Treo release integrates into the Treo and allows alarms to be used as Ringtones, SMS alerts and normal alarms.  When you purchase a subscription, you get access to alarms and Ringtones.Anything with PalmOs 3.0 and above.
  • Tested on Palm IIIx, Palm V, Palm VII...you get the picture it works!.
  • Tested and works with FlashPro on Palm V. Allows you to load the Alarms into Flash. (For Flash equipped Palms only)

I am not sure what files should be installed.

  • If you double click on the .zip file you downloaded. Within this are further zipped files, these then contain the ringtones. Within this are files called treo-ringtones-xxxx.pdb. Double click this file, you should get the Palm Install dialogue. Click ok, then HotSync. That should get you running.

I want to revert to the old ringtones

  • Why would you want to do that?

  • Using Ringo select Restore Ringtones from the Tones menu.
